Well I'm moving on up!  Sewing surgical hats in three styles and they've been selling pretty well at the hospital so I am taking a chance and branching out!  I just opened my etsy store, I figured why not!  I am always looking for a way in order to make a little extra and this is an added plus since I love sewing!  I just want to get a few pictures of the boppy covers that I made for a friend of mine for her beautiful baby girl!

Little man is doing very well, back to school and has an early release day Friday.  And he doesn't know it yet, but he gets to have a sleep over with his cousins at my sisters that day too!  That will make two date nights in the last week for us!  We had a great weekend together, my niece and nephew had their birthday parties on Saturday and it was a blast!  My mom and I went out shopping before the party for some last min gifts and while we were shopping Hunter and my dad went to another build and grow workshop at the local Lowes.  Then after the birthday party he got to spend some more time with Grandma and Spud, always makes him happy!

We went and saw "Gone Girl" Saturday night, and I loved it!  Jury is still out on how Jared liked it, I don't know that he was ready for the kind of movie it was.  Without giving anything away it just twists and turns, just like the book.  If you haven't seen the movie or read the book I highly recommend reading the book first!  It was so good I had to get another one by her and read it as well, read Dark Places and Gone Girl in a week! They were so good, couldn't put them down!

We have another full weekend coming up, so until next time!

Long Time

Well it's been far too long since I posted anything.  We are still chugging along.  We are still trying for baby number 2.   We were told we would need to go see a fertility specialist, but we have decided against this, we already have one amazing little boy who is the center of our world.  We thought that we would rather use the money that may of gone to a fertility specialist and spend it on little Hunter.

Hunter is now in Pre-K 4 at the elementary school five days a week!  He loves it and is learning so much.  I never realized just how much they are supposed to already know by the time they enter kindergarten!!!  Pre-K is for them what kindergarten was to us growing up.  I am so blessed that he was able to enter this program.  He got in on a need for speech therapy.  His MDO teacher last year noticed what we had already, that she couldn't really understand him and neither could his friends.  So we started the process late last year in getting him speech therapy through CCISD.  And let me tell you, it's a PROCESS!!!  We had to go and have him tested, and as I knew he qualified for the full evaluation, which was another two months down the road.  When we went for the full evaluation it was a FULL day of testing in all areas of development.  We were both exhausted afterward, he totally melted down and was done with the day, and I couldn't blame him at all.  After that it was more waiting and waiting for all the instructors to meet and 'grade' his tests.  We finally got the call and after filling out more paper work (so much paper work) he was officially accepted and got to start after spring break.  He was in Pre-K 3 the last nine weeks of the school year.  And he made great progress in that short period of time!  So much that he didn't have to do anything over the summer.  So now he's back in school and having so much fun with all of his friends.  He loves his teachers and as I heard after the parent-teacher conference last week I learned just how much they love him!

I am still working nights, which is so much easier now that Hunter is back in school.  Not much to report on that end, other than lots of new people.  And I'm making scrub hats for everyone!  Love making them and I'm making pretty decent money doing it!

Til next time, I promise it won't be so long!

Well unfortunately I haven't been sewing as much as I'd like, almost not at all :(.  But hopefully that will change this weekend, we'll see if the hubby will let me have some time.  I have been digi scrapping here and there when I can and am now up to June of last year for the 2011 book.  But seeing how much I've been using my awesome new camera it'll take me a while to get caught up on this year!
Hubby got his great new gift for Father's Day, a really big tent!  I definitely do NOT camp, but he loves it.  He's been wanting to take the little one camping but I thought it would be a good idea to test it out a few times by 'camping' in the backyard to get him used to the idea.  I think I'm pretty brilliant that way, and he agreed.  Last weekend was rainy and nasty all weekend so he wasn't able to try it out but I think it will be tested out this weekend, and that's when I'm hoping to get some crafting done :)  See, his Father's Day gift works for everyone!
Some big changes are happening in August, I am going to be going full time at work.  Something I never really thought I would do, but I will stop going back and forth between days and nights!  That's been pretty hard on me and everyone. I will be working the night shift and I couldn't be happier.  The hardest part of this will be adjusting myself and Hunter to my new schedule (hopefully I'll get a peak at it tomorrow) because I am pulling his little butt out of daycare.  Some people are behind us with this decision and others think I've gone completely out of my mind.  My thinking is that he still takes naps and even when he stops (that thought scares me!) we'll institute a quiet time each day so I can at least get a little rest.  And depending on what my schedule looks like I'll look into Mother's Day Out programs in the area.  But I will suck it up and make this work for our family so we can save a huge chunk of money each month.  Maybe even put that savings toward an embroidery machine by the end of the year!!  ;)  But we are really in need of a new car, I'm pretty sure this will be my little cars last year.  So this will really help us out and I just can't see spending that money for him to be in daycare all day when I'm at home.  Wish us luck, I'm so excited and know that this is going to be an amazing thing for our family!!!

Been hard at work over the last week or so at the sewing machine and at the computer doing my digi scrapbook.  I am almost up to date with this year and then I started last year and am up to April.  This time around I've backed the scrapbooks up to my external hard drive, a hard lesson I learned after my other computer crashed!  I would love to be all up to date by the end of the year, but as I keep taking so many pictures with my new camera I don't know if that's going to happen!
So excited, went to Joanns yesterday and took full advantage of their Memorial Day sales!  They had their Simplicity patterns 5 for $5 and because I wanted more than 10 (their limit) I took my mom with me and got about 15 of them!  So after I finish the bag and dress I'm working on right now I will try and figure out which pattern I'll tackle first!  I'll keep you posted :)  Hopefully I'll be able to get some work done today on both sewing and scrapping!

Quilts for Kids

Just heard of an amazing program that Downy is a part of, Quilts for Kids. They have been around for a few years but I am hearing about them for the first time.  They are a group that helps make quilts for children in need, little kiddos in hospitals.  Their mission statement is: Transforming discontinued, unwanted and other fabrics into patchwork quilts that comfort children with life-threatening illnesses and children of abuse.
How awesome is that?  I haven't created a quilt yet, but in a few weeks I will be attempting my first.  You don't even have to cut your fabric, you can request a kit be sent to you here.  I just ordered mine a few minutes ago and will be waiting not so patiently for mine to arrive in the mail.  I am going to see if I can copy the fabric cuts with my own stash and come up with at least one more to send off along with the one that comes in the kit.

And again it seems like ages since I've posted anything!  Well it has been!  And it's been ages since I've actually made time to get on my sewing machine.  But for Mother's Day I decided it was time to get back into it!  So Friday I got off work early and after doing some shopping for my little man, he needed a whole new summer wardrobe since he decided to grow!  I went to the local Joann's and got some fabric and new patterns.  One that was even for me!
Saturday afternoon was spent at my parents house cutting patterns and fabric.  They have an awesome oversized island that is perfect for cutting, and they're super nice enough to let me use it whenever I want.  So after cutting I went to work on creating a new shirt for myself.  One that is nice for summer and roomy enough in case I get pregnant in the near future.  I used Simplicity pattern 4127 and went with view E to start with.  I used very soft, thin and stretchy denim.  It went together very easily but I ran into some issues with the elastic because I didn't use the lining (wasn't really needed).  But I just created my own casing and slid the elastic in.  But I ended up having to cut out about 8 inches from what they said to keep the shirt up.  But I think that was because I could of gone 1-2 sizes down from what I cut.  I am going to try view C later this week/this weekend with a much lighter fabric and lining and we'll see how that works, I will go 1 size down.
I also got McCall's M4643 for my son, this was hubby's idea.  He claimed that he needed a terry cloth hooded robe to roll around naked after bath time.  So that'what I set out to create.  The fabric suggestions didn't include terry but I went ahead and tried anyway.  I decided on a yellow color because I also got some lightweight flannel fabric for jammies.  One with airplanes and one with helicopters since he's obsessed with both, and the yellow matches both as well as the other jammies I bought him at Carter's.  I started putting the robe together during nap time Sunday and was finished with it by the time he took his bath that night, I always have tons of interruptions while I sew unless I'm at home alone!  I was so excited with how it turned out, it was so easy to put together and fits him so well!
I just finished up the shirt from the jammies last night and today I'll finish the pants.  I had to get his exact

waist measurement for the pants or they would of been done already.  The shirt fits him very well but I think for the next one I am going to skip the Velcro and just make the neck hole a little bigger, not a huge fan of the Velcro placement.  He was already playing with it and he only had it on for about an hour.

I'm also super excited because Brother has come out with a very affordable Embroidery machine, $300!!!  It's smaller then some of the others and doesn't sew but that would be fine since I already have an awesome sewing machine and a serger!  I am going to start saving my pennies and hopefully I'll be able to own it before the end of the summer!

And another new thing, I am now an Advocare distributor!!!  I started in January by doing their 24 day challenge and I've never felt better!  I have so much energy and feel amazing!  Not to mention I've lost almost 30 pounds since I started :)  Now we're a total Advocare family, hubby is doing their system and even little man is taking product.  Little man takes his probiotics, vitamins, calcium (since he hates milk), meal replacement shakes in the morning (he's so picky about breakfast and would eat and eat and eat crap all morning long, but now he gets this and stays full on good protein and vitamins) and he does 1/2 ounce of the Sleep Works to help him wind down at night and stay asleep (he was a sleep walker!)  Don't worry, I consulted with a local pedi about everything and not only has she been giving this and more to her own family she also recommends it to her patient, but he's been doing so well with everything!!!
So if you are interested in anything feel free to visit my website:  Advocare Store
If you sign up to be a distributor you get 20% off everything and your discount can go up depending on how much you buy!

Can't believe that next week is Christmas! Where did this year go?!?! I've been super busy getting everything ready for the big day and even preparing for the next year. I've really never been big on New Year's Resolutions, but I have a great idea for how to make our lives a little better and maybe even save some money in t
he coming year. I have discovered Pinterest, and am totally addicted. I saw an amazing idea, a menu board, and decided that we needed one! I have spent all week creating, and I still have some fine tuning to do, but it is up and I now know what we're going to have for dinner the rest of the m
number one question of every day was always "What's for dinner?" and I grew tired of trying to scramble and figure something out at the last minute. It will also hopefully aid in the weekly shopping trips. By knowing what we're making for dinner every day we will also know exactly what to get at the store, so I hope we'll save some money by getting what we need and not just a bunch of random crap. I know that there are days where we both are at work and it gets crazy at night, so those nights I've deemed either leftover nights or a very easy meal night.
I've also kinda put my foot down with DH's habit of buying lunch every day at work. I am guilty of this as well! I am making him get a lunch box and we're both going to start taking our lunch the majority of the time. It just adds up, even $5 a day for lunch. But know if we're cooking real dinners, we'll have plenty of leftovers for the week!

I have also been spending some time sewing, not as much as I would like, but I get to it when I can :) I just finished making my parents smallest dog a little coat, and I'm happy to say she seems to like it better than my puppy likes his (he acts like he's frozen as soon as I put it on him). It even has a little 'fur' on the 'collar' and it has a hood! Now she can stay warm in the cold weather outside, when she actually goes out there!
